Action stars across the world often have the most adventurous stories to tell about their times on set, shooting action dramas, and the adrenaline they experience. Among these are also stories of injuries, accidents, and sometimes near-death experiences. An action franchise in Hollywood that has seen it all is The Expendables, which has released four films and is still counting. The action is as insane as the filmmaking process itself. Look at the cast; some of the most brilliant action stars have all come together to make one movie, and the result is The Expendables. But did you know Sylvester Stallone once suffered an injury so severe while shooting with Steve Austin that he hasn't fully recovered from it to this day? Read on to know everything you should about the same.
For those uninitiated, Stallone deserves much of the credit for the existence of The Expendables franchise. He was the force behind the first film, released in 2010, as he not only backed it but also directed and co-wrote the script. Being an integral part meant that many stunts were required. However, one stunt took a toll during the shooting, leading Sylvester to the surgery bed in 2009. But the actor did not reveal it to the world until 2010 when the movie was ready to release, and he was promoting it.
According to Business Insider, it was during The Expendables 4 that Sylvester Stallone confessed he hadn't recovered from the injury to this day. Talking about the first film, where he suffered the most serious and long-term injuries, he recalled a fight scene with wrestling star Stone Cold aka Steve Austin, which led to a permanent metal plate in his neck and surgery for a hairline fracture. "Truthfully, I've never fully recovered," Stallone confessed.
"It did such a number on my body, I've never been the same. Never. Was it really worth it? Are you doing this for people's approval? Really, that's almost like a child needing a pat on the head by their father. It's constant encouragement. But it's true," Sylvester Stallone said.
To this confession from Expendables star Sylvester Stallone, his co-star and rival turned friend Arnold Schwarzenegger also had something to add about the accident being discussed. "It's not uncommon for an action hero to get injured on set, but I think it is clear that Sly drove it to the extreme," Schwarzenegger said. "I thought it was too much."
