The Dirty Picture turns 10: Five moments from the Vidya Balan starrer that are sure to scar you

The Dirty Picture, which gave Vidya Balan's career a new boost, completes a decade today. The story of the movie was about the life of the real-life female icon, Silk Smitha. While many people know about the 'Ooh La La' of Silk's life, various others picked the 'Choona na' policy when it came to understanding her struggles in the era. The movie beautifully managed to show that (even though using some commercial elements) and thus, The Dirty Picture was lauded back when it was released in 2010.

1. When Silk had to witness the man she loved, make love to his wife

Silk was with her much-aged co-star Suryakanth (Naseeruddin Shah) in his house. They already had an intense lovemaking scene and Silk was just about to leave his house, when she was forced to stay in the bathroom since Surya's real wife rang the bell. Silk observed the man she was falling in love with, make love to his wife, through a keyhole. That is when she first experienced her life shattering

2. When all the men ganged up to destroy her career

Shakeela became the icon after Suryakanth refused to give Silk a role in movies. After he rejected her, literally nobody accepted Silk again, especially when Shakeela had also entered the industry as Silk's competitor. Since Surya refused to give Silk any role after the news of their relationship started leaking, all doors closed up for her. There was only so much producer Selva Ganesh (Rajesh Sharma) could do to try and salvage her career. From casting her to spending cash on her, every male masochist refused Silk Smitha.

3. When she was misled into doing a pornographic film

Silk approaches a small-time filmmaker. He offers her drinks before filming her. An almost drugged Silk took time to grasp what was happening around her. She almost shot for a pornographic film. Luckily, the place was raided and she managed to escape.

4. Her giving up on life

Once Silk's career failed her, she gave up on life. The humiliation from people who she could once call her own was just a cherry on the top. Deep in debt, Silk believed there was no reason to live and she ended her life with her own hands.

5. Emraan Hashmi's Abraham is ready for love when she gives up on life

Do you see any irony in this? Abraham rejected Silk in her first movie. She was rejected anyway and so, she used a sex appeal to start doing films. It was something Abraham was deeply against. However, she had to struggle more than any man in the whole movie industry. Abraham never saw that, till the very end. When Silk was humiliated, deep in debt and lost her will to live, Abraham, the director of her many films, fell in love with her. If just thinking that doesn’t scar you, nothing will.
