The Diplomat, the political thriller featuring Keri Russell as the title character US Ambassador for Britain Kate Wyler, is returning for a second season this month. Following the events of the season 1 finale, where Kate’s husband and former ambassador Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell) was caught in a deadly explosion, the new season has her digging into a potential conspiracy within the British government that is most likely led by the prime minister.
All 6 episodes of The Diplomat Season 2 will drop on Netflix on October 31. The action picks up in the aftermath of the devastating car bomb explosion in London, which nearly killed Hal Wyler. While initial suspicion points to the involvement of Russia in the attack, it doesn’t take Kate long to figure out that it was all being orchestrated within the British government, with Prime Minister Trowbridge (Rory Kinnear) the most likely brain behind it.
Kate is joined by British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi) and CIA agent Eidra Park (Ali Ahn) in investigating the British government’s involvement in the attacks, with help from Hal. According to the official synopsis of the show, as released by Netflix, The Diplomat Season 2 explores the aftermath of a deadly explosion in the heart of London that shatters US Ambassador Kate Wyler’s world.
“Struggling to rebuild the lives that broke and the team that split apart, Kate’s worst fears unfold: The attack that brought her to the U.K. didn’t come from a rival nation, it came from inside the British government. As Kate chases the truth, her only real ally is her almost-ex-husband Hal Wyler (Sewell), very much alive, and very much involved. She faces a fraught marriage, a complex dynamic with British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (Gyasi), and a threatening visit from Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney),” it reads.
