Fans, in anxious anticipation of updates from The Crown’s latest season, look no further.
British actor Khalid Abdalla, known for his roles in the Oscar-nominated docudrama United 93 and the film adaptation of The Kite Runner, has been cast as Dodi Fayed, according to Variety. The star took to Twitter to express his excitement on the same and thank his well-wishers for their support.
Elizabeth Debicki will play Diana Spencer in the upcoming instalment of the historical drama’s upcoming season. The role was previously played by Emma Corrin, who won a Golden Globe award for her performance, and an Emmy nomination as well.
Although makers have kept the plot details of the new season under wrap, this casting development suggests that Princess Diana’s short-lived relationship with Fayed will be chronicled in the show. Diana and Fayed died in a car crash in 1997 in Paris, while trying to escape the paparazzi.
The Crown, created and written by Peter Morgan, traces the journey of Queen Elizabeth through different periods of her life and her family members’ lives. The show first premiered on Netflix in November 2016.
The critically acclaimed show has been the recipient of numerous accolades, including Emmy Awards.
The fifth season will take the story of the royal family further from where it ended last season in the late 1980s.
Imelda Staunton will star as Queen Elizabeth. Other members of the cast include Jonathan Pryce, Lesley Manville, Jonny Lee Miller and Dominic West.
