Superstars should do at least 2 films a year – that’s been a demand (request) from Kannada film industry stakeholders for a while. Yash has not had a release since 2022’s KGF, Sudeep since 2022’s Vikrant Rona, Sriimurali since 2021’s Madhagaja, Dhruva Sarja since 2019’s Pogaru. Shivarajkumar has multiple films in a year, but his track record is not consistent. With stars taking their own sweet time to determine their next move, the rest of the industry, especially exhibitors have been in dire straits, with many theatres in Karnataka shutting shop and not many being replaced by swankier multiplexes.
Challenging Star Darshan - who had two films last year, Kranti and Kaatera, with the latter doing well and giving the industry a fillip – was determined to have his next film out as soon as possible and was aiming for an October release. The film, Devil The Hero, directed by Prakash Veer, who made Tarak with the actor. Considering that Kaatera came out at the end of December, having Devil I theatres in October would be as good as having 2 films a year. Well, it would be still better than having none at all. But then, Darshan was injured on the set of Devil, with his arm in a heavily fortified sling, which gave rise to speculation that the film will not be a 2024 release.

Earlier today, Darshan took to social media with a promise to his fans. Devil – The Hero will be a 2024 release, albeit a tad later than expected. Christmas 2024 it will be, he said in his post. Well, the post-Christmas time has been good for the actor, given that Kaatera came out on December 29 and did well at the box office.
Fans are, no doubt, elated, and hailed Darshan’s commitment to saving single-screen theatres in the state. “Hats off to your dedication, no matter what, to have at least one release in a year and save exhibitors,” was a common refrain from netizens.
