Netflix has dropped the first teaser of its upcoming crime-drama series with elements of comedy, The Brothers Sun, led by Michelle Yeoh. It will premiere on January 4, 2024. The tagline of the show seems to be “mama knows best,” and rightfully so, with the crime family matriarch fiercely protecting her family from all dangers.
The less-than-a-minute sneak peek clip featured little dialogue and lot of action. But the story follows Eileen Sun, the matriarch of a Taiwanese crime family and her younger son Bruce Sun as they spend their normal lives in Los Angeles. However, an unaware Bruce’s life is spinned on its head when his crime-hardened brother, Charles ‘Chairleg’ Sun arrives from Taipei, Taiwan to keep the family safe from assassins, post their crime lord father’s death.
Eileen’s attempt to provide an ordinary life for her son Bruce shatters and she is forced to focus on formidably protecting what’s her own, while Bruce has to survive having a sibling, assassins attempting to kill him, and fitting into a crime family. In the teaser, Eileen teams up with her estranged elder son to save their remaining family.
The teaser features a naïve Bruce facing his reality for the first time as enemies attack. Charles is seen knocking heads more than once, as well as being knuckled by his mother. Eileen is seen facing adversity with a cool head, even when dressed in an apron and armed with a drill machine bespattered with enemy innards with her son calling out to her.
The dark action comedy also stars Highdee Kuan, Joon Lee, Jenny Yang, Johnny Kou, Jon Xue Zhang and many more. Developed by Brad Falchuk and written by Byron Wu, The Brothers Sun is directed by Kevin Tancharoen and promises to shaken up the New Year’s week.
