Black Knight Films and Endemol Shine India, a Banijay company, have announced they will be adapting the popular Danish/Swedish scripted series Bron/Broen (The Bridge). Saif Ali Khan will play the lead role in the brand-new original Hindi version, which he will also co-produce under the Black Knight Films label.
The Bridge's idea has broad appeal since it can be understood and enjoyed by a worldwide audience that is accustomed to a borderless environment. At the start of the episode, a dead body is discovered on a border shared by two nations, with half of it lying in each. As a result of this discovery, the police departments in both areas launched a joint investigation. This means that detectives from both sides have to work together to solve the crime.
The Bridge, a valuable title from the Banijay library, has been translated into many languages. It has been read in the US and Mexico, the UK and France, Germany and Austria, Singapore and Malaysia, and Russia and Estonia, among other places.
Rishi Negi, the CEO of Endemol Shine India, said in a statement that The Bridge's script is effective because it uses a vocabulary that people watching from any location in the world can understand and appreciate. They are excited to bring the magic of this show back to India because it is a worldwide story that can be made to feel very Indian by using the basic premise of the series.
Saif shared that this is the one-of-a-kind opportunity that an actor and producer have been waiting for. His team and he at Black Knight Films—Kunjal Punamiya, CEO and co-producer, and Pavan Kriplani, creative producer and co-producer—are incredibly thrilled to be associated with this project and get it started. It is a story that has been told all over the world, and people love it no matter where they live.
The Bridge is a contemporary crime thriller that explores the tensions between two close neighbours and has already been adapted in seven other nations. The Bridge (Bron or Broen) was first thought of and written by Hans Rosenfeldt. It was made by Filmlance International, a branch of Banijay in Sweden, and Nimbus Film in Denmark. It was also made in collaboration with Sveriges Television, DR, the ZDF German Television network, ZDF Enterprises Gmbh, Film I Skåne, NRK, Copenhagen Film Fund, Lumiere Group, Stiftelsen Ystad Österlen. More than 188 different nations have broadcast the original.
