Streaming platforms are notorious for their lack of transparency, allowing them to quote numbers that are tough to verify. Ormax Media, a media consulting firm, has began tracking viewership figures of the top releases across major platforms.

Here’s a list of the most-viewed shows and movies from the Indian streaming space during the week of August 2nd, 2021 – August 8th, 2021. The numbers are all estimates based only within India. This list does not include any streaming released from the South.

1) City Of Dreams S2 – Disney+Hotstar

Views (million): 7.6

City of Dreams is an Indian series by Nagesh Kukunoor. the political drama within and around the Gaekwad family enmeshed in the politics of Maharashtra.

2) Chhatrasal – MX Player

Views (million): 4.0

Chhatrasal is a historical epic based on the life of the 16th century king Chhatrasal of Bundelkhand, who is fighting against Aurangzeb and the Mughal push for territorial expansion.

3) The Legend Of Hanuman S2 – Disney+Hotstar

Views (million): 2.7

This Indian animated mythological fantasy streaming television series follows Hanuman and his transformation from a mighty warrior to a god

4) Mimi – Netflix/Jio Cinema

Views (million): 2.5

Based on the Marathi film Mala Aai Vhhaychy a serious look at the gaps and galls of the surrogacy laws in India, Mimi infuses the drama with humour. Set in a town in Rajasthan , Kriti Sanon plays a dance performer who is asked by a foreigner couple to be their surrogate. She’s paid 20 lakhs but the couple develop cold feet and leave.

5) Balcony Buddies – MX Player

Views (million): 2.4

Amol Parashar and Aisha Ahmed play strangers who become “buddies” over the lockdown through their opposite balconies. It is an interactive short film where you get to dress up the characters.
