Director Tharun Bhascker, who helmed Pelli Choopulu and Ee Nagaraniki Emaindhi earlier, is returning with a crime comedy Keedaa Cola, that releases in theatres this Friday. Chaitanya Rao, Rag Mayur, Brahmanandam, Ravindra Vijay essay key roles in it. The film’s pre-release event was organised in Hyderabad on Sunday in the presence of the cast, crew and chief guest Vijay Deverakonda.
Talking about the film, Tharun said, “Before the release of Pelli Choopulu and Ee Nagaraniki Emaindhi, I was genuinely scared, anxious and could never watch the film with audiences. I was always upset about the film, thinking of many ways how it could have been better. I just returned from Mumbai after the DI and finally, I’m confident of Keedaa Cola and proud of what we’ve managed.”
While The success of a film is dependent on many factors, Keedaa Cola helped me value my friendships all the more and fulfil my dream of directing a crime comedy, he stated. “I could see the collaboration of all crafts in those two hours. My friends didn’t only put their money into it. Even after turning a father, my childhood friend Upendra, was on the sets for the film.”
This may be a Rs 150 ticket for audiences, it has told me about the people who’ve stood by me through my thick and thin, Tharun shared. “We’ve worked smartly to offer you something new. I could’ve easily made an Ee Nagaraniki Emaindhi 2, it would’ve had a market but I wanted to challenge myself. We all have problems in life since the moment we are born, but Keedaa Cola will make you laugh.”
The humour works at various levels in the film - in terms of visuals, wit and sound, he added. “I’ve made it consciously thinking that it should represent Telugu cinema. Forget all of it and have a good time at the cinemas this November. I know God will be kind to us for bring a smile to your faces. Brahmanandam is a living example of it, his biggest gift is a happy family.”
Most of the actors in the film came through an audition and Brahmanandam garu was in it because of my selfish reason, Tharun averred. “I am not proud that I’m launching anyone, it’s all about being at the right place at the right time. It was a last time wish of a theatre actor Hari to act in a film and we’re happy that Keedaa Cola materialised for him. He’d passed away after the shoot.”
