Thangalaan is one of the most eagerly anticipated Tamil films this year. The makers remaining tight-lipped about the release date and its release being postponed have only fuelled the anticipation and expectation among the fans. Now, Vikram, who is headlining the project has teased the release date reveal with a poster.
As per reports and social media buzz, it is expected that Thangalaan will hit the big screens in August. Further adding to this are the reports that Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2, which is scheduled to release on August 15 for Independence Day, is getting pushed to a later date. This has further instigated the buzz that Thangalaan will release on August 15. However, the makers have yet to officially announce a release date for the film.
Vikram teased the release date of Thangalaan by sharing a photo of himself in the Thangalaan getup and captioning it, "Exciting times!!" The makers are expected to soon break their silence over the release date. The film is in the final stages of production, further prompting fans to believe that it won't be a long wait to watch the movie on the big screen.
Thangalaan is written and directed by filmmaker Pa Ranjith in his first collaboration with the actor. It is a period film set against the backdrop of the Kolar Gold Fields and is said to explore the origins of the place. Bankrolled by Jio Studios, Studio Green and Neelam Productions, the film was scheduled to release in January but was postponed.
Apart from Vikram, the film also stars Parvathy Thiruvottu, Malavika Mohanan, Pasupathy, and others. GV Prakash Kumar has scored the music for the film. OTT giant Netflix has bagged the post-theatrical rights to the movie.
Thangalaan will be released in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. Tamil Praba has co-written the film, which was shot by cinematographer Kishor Kumar. Selva RK has worked on the editing.
