Thangalaan release date: Chiyaan Vikram's much-awaited film to drop in theatres on January 26

It's official! The much-awaited release date of Chiyaan Vikram's upcoming film, Thangalaan is finally here. The film is all set to drop in theatres on January 26 on the occasion of Republic Day. This means that the film has opted out of the Pongal. The teaser for the film, on the other hand, will be out on November 1.

Taking to his social media handle, the film's lead actor Vikram dropped the announcement. "A fiery story of a bygone era that’s waiting to be told & cherished #Thangalaan teaser dropping on 1st November & #Thangalaan arriving at cinemas worldwide on 26th January, 2024 (sic)."

Earlier in the day, Vikram had announced that the release date update will be out at 5pm today, which had the fans of the actor excited.

A period drama
Thangalaan is billed as a period drama, which is set in the pre-independence era. The plot is said to be inspired by the lives of mine workers in the Kolar Gold Field in Karnataka and is set in the British era. The film's director Pa Ranjith had earlier stated that the film was an attempt to gain respect for a community which has been overlooked for generations. Vikram has undergone a massive makeover for the film and his fiery look, long hair and beard, has already become a sensational hit.

Shoot wrapped in July
The shoot for the film was wrapped earlier in July and Vikram called it one of the most evocative experiences as an actor. Dropping a couple of BTS pictures, Vikram wrote, "And it’s a wrap!! What a journey!! Worked with some of the most amazing people & had some of the most evocative experiences as an actor. Was it just 118 working days between the first pic & the last. Thank you Ranjit for making us live this dream. Every single day. #thangalaan (sic)."

An ensemble cast and crew
The star cast includes Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, Pasupathy, Harikrishnan Anbudurai, Preeti Karan and Muthukumar. While the music is by GV Prakash Kumar, cinematography is by A Kishor Kumar and editing is by Selva RK. SS Murti has handled the art direction and Stunner Sam has handled the action choreography. The film is bankrolled by KE Gnanavel Raja's Studio Green and Pa Ranjith's home banner Neelam Productions.
