Pa Ranjith’s highly anticipated period action drama film Thangalaan, starring Chiyaan Vikram, has generated a lot of excitement among fans, particularly after the release of an impressive teaser. Studio Green has confirmed the movie’s global release date as January 26, 2024. Producer KE Gnanavel Raja, who has been appearing in interviews ahead of the film’s release, recently revealed what to expect from the Vikram starrer.

Thangaalaan to elevate Indian cinema at global stage

Speaking during an interview, the producer of Thangalaan revealed that the movie will be recognised as one of the finest films in Indian cinema. “The Thangalaan that we had initially planned when we started shooting and the one we saw at the final output has completely exceeded our expectations. We did expect the film to come out with great quality content, but the final output has definitely shook us. All thanks to the sincere efforts made by Ranjith sir, Vikram sir, Malavika, Paravathi, Daniel and all other cast and crew members. The film will cross borders in terms of its cinematic experience. If it works according to our plan, the movie will open to huge collections worldwide, and is definitely going to be world-class, elevating Indian cinema to an international level,” Gnanavel Raja elaborated.

Vikram-starrer Thangalaan’s plot, cast and crew

The movie seems to present a new angle on the fight for freedom against British rule. Thangalaan’s backdrop carries an atmosphere of the freedom struggle era and mythology. While it tells a story we’re familiar with - of the oppressed rebelling against the oppressors - the film’s unique visual and narrative approach adds a fresh dimension to the narrative.

Thangalaan’s music is composed by GV Prakash Kumar, while the cast also includes Parvathy, Malavika Mohanan, Pasupathi, Muthukumar, Hari Krishnan, Preethi and Arjun Prabhakaran. Thangalaan is set against the backdrop of the Kolar Gold Fields during the British era. The project is supported by KE Gnanavel Raja’s Studio Green, with Ranjith’s Neelam Productions overseeing production on a first-copy basis.
