Thangalaan postponed again; Vikram and Pa Ranjith’s film to get a new release date soon?

Vikram and Pa. Ranjith, the National award-winning actor and acclaimed filmmaker are joining hands for Thangalaan, the upcoming period action drama. The much-awaited project, which was originally supposed to hit the big screens on January 26, 2024, has been postponed indefinitely due to the delay in its post-production works. Even though later it was rumoured that Thangalaan might get released in April 2024, the recent updates suggest that the Chiyaan Vikram starrer is delayed further.

Thangalaan’s release postponed again?

Earlier, it was reported that the Pa. Ranjith directorial is slated to hit the theatres in April 2024. However, according to the recent updates, the makers of Thangalaan are planning to delay the release further, in order to find more time for the post-production works and promotions of the film. Some unconfirmed reports also suggest that the team members of Vikram starrer feel that the project might perform well, if it releases after the upcoming 2024 elections. In that case, the period action drama might hit the big screens in June or July 2024.

Will the multiple delays impact Thangalaan’s box office performance?

However, the cine-goers, especially the fans of Chiyaan Vikram, feel that the long, multiple delays in the release might negatively impact the box office performance. The lack of frequent updates also affects the pre-release hype of Thangalaan, even though the official posters and the highly promising teaser created a great stir on social media. However, the film industry insiders, including the producer of the project, KE Gnanavel Raja, assured that it will be a ‘world-class film’ .

All about Thangalaan

Vikram is set to play the role of a tribal leader in the Pa. Ranjith directorial, which is set in the pre-independence era. The official teaser suggests that Thangalaan revolves around the clash between a tribe and the British rulers, over a goldmine. Some unconfirmed reports also suggest that the project depicts the origin story of the highly famous Kolar Gold Fields.

Parvathy Thiruvothu, Pasupathy, Malavika Mohanan, Daniel Caltagirone, Harikrishnan Anbudurai, and others play the other pivotal roles. GV Prakash Kumar has composed the songs and original score. Kishor Kumar is the director of photography. Selva RK handles the editing. Thangalaan is jointly produced by Pa Ranjith’s Neelam Productions and Studio Green.
