Thangalaan OTT release: Producer of Vikram's film confirms film to be out on Netflix soon

Thangalaan, the 2024 Tamil film starring actor Vikram in the lead role, hit theatres in August for the occasion of Independence Day. While the film was well received across the nation, reports began to surface on the delayed OTT release of the film. Netflix has bagged the post-theatrical digital rights of Thangalaan. With some saying that the film’s OTT release is held up due to financial issues, producer Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green clarified the same.

Thangalaan OTT release update

Director Pa Ranjith collaborated with actor Vikram for the first time in the 2024 Tamil film Thangalaan. The film is a period-action drama and was released in theatres on August 15. The film is backed by Gnanavel Raja under the Studio Green banner. With two months having passed since the release of the film, Thangalaan is yet to make its OTT debut. The streaming rights of the film have been bagged by Netflix. Many reports began to surface that the streaming release of the film had been delayed due to financial problems.

However, Gnanavel Raja took part in an X space conducted recently and confirmed that Thangalaan is set to release on Netflix for Diwali. “They wanted a festival release, and have scheduled our film for Diwali. However, some of the YouTubers have claimed that the film is in trouble,” Gnanavel Raja said.

The film also features Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, Pasupathi, Daniel Caltagirone, and many others. Thangalaan, set against the historical backdrop of the Kolar Gold Field, portrays the authentic experiences of marginalized individuals from previous centuries and their fight for justice, constrained by oppression, as they are employed by colonizers to find gold in the region.

The technical crew of Thangalaan consists of music by GV Prakash Kumar and Kishore Kumar handling the cinematography. RK Selva is the editor. The film opened to positive reception and box office success upon release.
