The makers of Pa Ranjith's upcoming film Thangalaan recently dropped a new poster from the film on the occasion of the director's birthday on December 8. In the poster, Vikram and Ranjith are seen looking at each other with water flowing in the backdrop. Vikram is seen as his character Thangalaan. Taking to its social media handle, the production house wrote, "Wishing the versatile creator of thought-provoking films, #PaRanjith sir, a very happy birthday From team #Thangalaan (sic)."

The picture seemed to have been taken during the shoot of the film in Hogenakkal. Vikram had recently shared a video in which the entire unit is seen taking a dip in the water after hearing the word, 'Packup'.

The film has Vikram, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan and Pasupathy playing crucial roles. The team has been sharing a number of BTS pictures thus keeping the fans updated about the progress of the film. Parvathy, too, had shared a BTS picture recently, in which she is seen along with Vikram and Ranjith.
Director Ranjith had revealed that Thangalaan was a film that revolved around the lives of people who lived in the Kolar Gold Field in the pre-independence era. He had also revealed that the film will feature some strong characters and is an attempt to gain respect for a community that has been devoid of the same for generations. The film is now being made on a large scale and will be released in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.

Vikram was last seen as Crown Prince Arulmozhi Varman in Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan. The film was an adaptation of Kalki's acclaimed novel of the same name and revolved around the battle for the Chola throne after the reigning king Sundara Cholar fell ill. The film turned out to be one of the biggest hits of Tamil cinema.
