Actor Hari Krishnan, who shot to fame with his character Johnny in Pa Ranjith's Madras, is all set to play the lead in debutant director Justin Prabhu's film, Vembu. The film has Sheela Rajkumar playing the leading lady. The first-look poster of the film was unveiled by Pa Ranjith. Sharing the poster on his social media handle, Pa Ranjith wrote, "Happy to reveal the title look of #ManjalCinemas presents #VEMBU . My best wishes to the whole crew (sic)!"

The poster features a balance, book and a box with the words, 'women care box' with the logo of the Tamil Nadu government featuring in the background.

Speaking about the film, director Justin Prabhu says, “Vembu is a realistic take on an individual’s life. How they step out of the comfort zone of their families, battle societal odds, and how situations turn them into great personalities forms the crux of this story. This film will appeal to the interests of audiences from all walks of life.

He adds, "Vembu revolves around a father, and a cousin, who is engaged to his fiancee and provides complete support and strength to her. This, in turn, creates a revolution in society. We have tried projecting a theme and message that will protect the people in such a way that even police and government cannot afford to. "

The director had earlier made a short film titled Kuppai Kaaran. "The short is based on the daily lives of cleaners and I bagged an international award for the same. I worked as an assistant in a few important movies. Since I hail from a village, I project things from the perspective of an ordinary man. All my movies will be based on socially responsible themes.”

The supporting cast comprises Marimuthu, Jaya Rao, Pariyerum Perumal-Karnan fame Janaki to name a few. It is worth mentioning that the film also features real-life stage artistes. The entire film has been shot across the exotic locales of Krishnagiri.

While the music is by debutant Manikandan, cinematography is by A Kumaran and editing is by KJ Venkatraman.Vembu is produced by Golden Suresh and S Vijayalakshmi of Manjal Cinemas
