The film also features Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, Pasupathi, Daniel Caltagirone, and many others. Thangalaan, set against the historical backdrop of the Kolar Gold Field, portrays the authentic experiences of marginalised individuals from previous centuries and their fight for justice, constrained by oppression, as they are employed by colonisers to find gold in the region. Ranjith’s film uses magical realism to tell the story. The film grossed a huge collection of Rs. 26 crore on the first day of release.
The success of Thangalaan has paved the way for the release of the film in the northern Indian territories. It will be released on September 6. The technical crew of Thangalaan consists of music by GV Prakash Kumar and Kishore Kumar handling the cinematography. RK Selva is the editor.
The post theatrical streaming rights of the Vikram-starrer have been bagged by Netflix. Recently, Vikram opened up about the possibility of Thangalaan getting a sequel. “Gnanavelraja, Ranjith and me have discussed about we wanting to do a second part very soon. That is not only because we love the film and want to make 100 parts, but the love you all have given us. The way you love this film, the support, we feel like we need to continue this story. We will be working on the second part as soon as Ranjith gets free,” he had said.
