Latest Tamil comedy Thandatti is getting ready to make its OTT debut soon. Written and directed by debutant director Ram Sangaiah, stars Pasupathy in the lead role. The movie will make its digital premiere on Amazon Prime Video on July 14.
Pasupathy had earlier described Thandatti as a movie that thrives at the fulcrum of comedy and tragedy. "I instantly like it as soon as I heard the narration. I hadn't heard a story like this in a long time. It was very cute. I had fallen in love with thandatti (earrings) since childhood. I kept planning to steal her earrings, but it didn't happen. I don't know what happen to those earrings after my grandmother passed away. And I had a wonderful time shooting for this movie. You will all like this. I believe that nobody in recent times has narrated a story in such simple style," Pasupathy said while talking about the movie.
"I am content about acting in a very good film. Only, you should tell whether it's a good movie. But, I am fully confident that this is a very good film," he added.
Judging from the trailer, Thandatti is set against the village backdrop. The film tells the story of an aged cop, portrayed by Pasupathy, who finds himself in an extraordinary situation. Pasupathy's character, on the brink of retirement, is called in to investigate stolen earrings from the ears of a dead woman. The dead woman, played by Rohini, was a respected village elder, so the who's who of the village comes to give her a fitting send-off. When her earrings get stolen, it leads to a series of incidents that brings out several underlying issues of the village to the fore. And the low-ranking cop finds himself in the middle of the storm and struggles to keep the situation from going out of control.
