Thallumaala: Here’s how much weight Tovino Thomas lost to play Manavalan Wazim in Khalid Rahman's entertainer

Eight fight scenes and eight songs – that’s how the makers of Thallumala have described Tovino Thomas’ Thallumaala. The first of those eight tracks – Kannil Pettole – dropped online a few days ago and while it was visually vibrant, what really caught the eye is how lean Tovino looked in the video.

As per reports, the Minnal Murali actor apparently dropped close to 10kg to shoot for the Khalid Rahman directorial. While the movie was shot across three schedules, Tovino shed the pounds for the first schedule in North Kerala last year. The film will apparently have the actor in several looks. Its final schedule was wrapped up last month in Dubai.

In an earlier interview with OTTplay in January, the actor told us that the action sequences of Thallumala too were challenging and he had experienced pain from Gout attack and had to take painkillers to finish those portions.

In a social media post, the actor wrote that there is something “extremely liberating” about doing films where you get to go all out. “Wazim is all that and much more,” he wrote, adding that the team’s support also ensured that he too had the confidence to do things that he once thought he couldn’t.

Meanwhile, Thallumaala marks the first all-out entertainer the star has been part of. Kalyani, from the song’s video, apparently plays a social media influencer. The movie, which also has Lukman Avaran and Shine Tom Chacko, also features a host of new talents who are popular for their social media reels and video as well as actors from the UAE, Thallumaala’s producer Ashiq Usman had earlier told us. The big budget film is expected to hit theatres next month.

Tovino is currently shooting for Aashiq Abu’s period film Neelavelicham, which also has Roshan Mathew, Rima Kallingal and Shine Tom Chacko as part of the cast.
