The big announcement that fans were eagerly waiting for is here. Thalapathy Vijay’s Eidi is to set a countdown to the release of his next, The GOAT (The Greatest of Them All). A few moments ago, the actor took to social media to announce that the film will be in theatres worldwide on September 5. While the release date’s significance is Teacher’s Day, September 6 and 7 mark the Gauri and Ganesha Chaturthi festivals, while the week thereafter rings in Onam in Kerala, a market in which Tamil films have a major presence.

“Vaathi coming on Teacher’s Day”, was a commonly seen comment to the release date announcement, with the actor’s fans taunting other star fan groups to set up a clash with Thalapathy. The actor’s film’s historically tend to clash with other biggies as they are festival releases. Leo was up against multiple Telugu films and Ghost in Kannada, while Varisu took on Thunivu and Beast was in competition with Yash’s KGF: Chapter 2.

Venkat Prabhu has been tight-lipped about The GOAT, which is said to be an action-based sci-fi flick. The filmmaker has a cameo in the film, which also stars Prashanth, Prabhudeva and Ajmal Ameer, among others. The film has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, with the first single expected to be released on the occasion of Tamil Puthandu on April 14.

The GOAT is a significant film in the actor’s career, as he’s announced that he will follow it up with one more and then step into a full-time political journey. Vijay has officially announced his intentions to be in the public eye as a politician, but it is still early days for this phase of his career.
