At the audio launch of Jailer, Nelson Dilipkumar opened up about how he landed the project and his concerns about the possibility of makers ousting him after his previous outing Beast garnered mixed reviews. However, the movie didn't incur a loss for Sun Pictures because of which he was confirmed as the director for Jailer which was then tentatively titled as Thalaivar 169.
Nelson also revealed that he lacked the confidence to narrate a story to Rajinikanth and that it was Vijay who encouraged him during the shooting of Beast.
Apparently, Vijay said that he need not worry and asked him to do a casual narration to the Superstar. Later, Rajinikanth liked the one line he narrated and asked him to develop the story. The director was under tremendous pressure as the failure of Beast affected him. However, it was the constant support from Rajini which helped him overcome the bad result of Beast.
Nelson left the crowd enthralled when he said that he never understood why Rajini would address him as "sir". He once requested him not to call him sir, but the star didn't listen to him.
The event was the first audio launch in Nelson's career. Though he made three projects earlier, none of them had audio launch events. His sarcastic speech on VTV Ganesh's indiscipline, love towards Jackie Shroff and vivid memories of his meeting with Shiva Rajkumar and Ramya Krishnan left everyone thrilled.
