It is no secret that Vijay's next, Thalapathy 67 (tentatively titled), will be helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj of Master-fame. The director, whose most recent film was Vikram starring Kamal Haasan, had stated that the Vijay movie was in the pre-production phase. Lokesh has stated that the producers plan to provide fans with an update on Thalapathy 67 over the next few months.
OTTplay learns that Thalapathy 67 will go on floors by the first week of December. And, sources close to the unit confirm that Trisha will be cast opposite Vijay.
“The scripting work got over in Kochi,” added the source. Arjun Das, who had a significant role in Master, is reportedly going to be in this one too. We still await official confirmation, though.
Sanjay Dutt, who gave a standout performance as the antagonist in KGF: Chapter 2, is said to play a villain in Thalapathy 67. The rumour is that Dutt received a hefty Rs 10 crore as the remuneration for his role.
Thalapathy Vijay will portray a salt and pepper gangster in the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial. Unconfirmed reports suggest that Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran, Arjun Sarja, and Samantha were approached by the makers, as well. The cast of Thalapathy 67 hasn't been formally revealed, until now.
Though it is unknown if Thalapathy 67 would take place in the same universe as Kaithi and Vikram, Lokesh has hinted that it will be action-packed. While this is going on, Vijay is awaiting the release of Varisu. The movie's release date is set for Pongal 2023.
Touted to be an emotional entertainer, Varisu is directed by Vamsi Paidipally, who is best known for directing Ram Charan's Yavadu and the Mahesh Babu-led Maharshi. Varisu stars Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead and marks her first collaboration with the mass hero. The supporting cast includes Prabhu, Sarathkumar, Shaam, Prakash Raj, Srikanth, Yogi Babu, Jayasudha and Sangeetha Krish, among others.
Thalapathy 67 has music by Anirudh Ravichander and is produced by Lalit Kumar under the 7 Screen Studios banner.
