Thalaivar 171: Jailer star Rajinikanth pins hopes on his most-anticipated film with Lokesh Kanagaraj

The news of Lokesh Kanagaraj teaming up with Rajinikanth for a project was doing the rounds for quite some time. The film was tentatively titled Thalaivar 171. Film buffs have been waiting for an official update about the movie ever since the speculation began.

Sun Pictures, which successfully produced Jailer with the Superstar recently, left everyone surprised when they officially made an announcement on the project a few days ago. Netizens were divided over Lokesh's 'lack of excitement' in his tweet on the announcement. The director, who is now busy with Leo, is expected to begin Thalaivar 171 next year.

The Superstar, who was in Coimbatore this morning, took a few seconds to open up about the movie when he was mobbed by the press. He was comfortably sitting inside his car along with his wife Latha when he was asked about the expectations on Thalaivar 171.

He said that it would take some time for the film to go on floors and that Thalaivar 170 with TJ Gananavel is his next outing. Rajini further added that he has high hopes for Lokesh's movie. "It will definitely come out as a good film," he said with a smile and thanked the press as his vehicle moved away.

Thalaivar 170 to begin soon

Lyca Productions, which is bankrolling Thalaivar 170, officially launched the project recently. They put up a casting call the other day, inviting Malayali actors based out of Trivandrum.

The movie which has Gnanavel at its helm is expected to be a content-driven project like his previous outing Jai Bhim. Fahadh Faasil, Manju Warrier and a few other actors' names are doing the rounds with regard to playing key roles in the film.
