Popular regional OTT platform aha paved the way for a new era of music reality shows with the first edition of the Telugu Indian Idol last year. The show did a fine job of unearthing some of the best grassroot singing talents across Telugu states and beyond. Composer S Thaman, singer Karthik and actress Nithya Menen were the judges of the first season that was hosted by Sreerama Chandra.
The auditions for the second season of the reality show have already commenced this year and the promos have confirmed that S Thaman and Karthik will be returning as judges for the show. The leaked images of Thaman, donning a green overcoat on a push cart, amidst a group of mridangam, nadaswaram players, while walking onto the sets of Telugu Indian Idol 2 are going viral on social media.
In the leaked images, one can spot the poster of the composer in the backdrop as well. Is the show expected to get a makeover for the second season? The absence of Nithya Menen in the promotional campaign has set a few tongues wagging too. If the news is true, who’ll be her replacement? One can’t wait to know more. The tremendous response for the audition calls has surprised the creators already.
Nellore-based singer BVK Vagdevi, an architecture student by qualification, had won the title in the first season. Sreenivas and Vaishnavi were the first and second runners-up respectively. Telugu film stars Nandamuri Balakrishna and Chiranjeevi were the special guests for the semi-finals and the finale. Several leading stars from the industry promoted their films with their show appearances too.
Indian Idol, the popular show, kickstarted in the country with the Hindi version in 2004 and had over 13 seasons to date. The first season of Marathi Indian Idol was held in 2021.
