Another eventful weekend packed with half a dozen Telugu releases is here. All the three films that released last week - Skanda, Peddha Kapu 1 and Chandramukhi 2 - have earned a tepid response at the box office. The fraternity would hope that the tide swings in their favour with this week’s films - Rules Ranjann, 800, Maama Mascheendra, Mad, Month of Madhu and Chinna.

There’s no real debate about the film which holds the edge at the box office - it’s undoubtedly Rules Ranjann. The Kiran Abbavaram, Neha Sshetty starrer is the most commerce-friendly film of them all. The songs are a hit already, the trailer promises a laugh riot and much like the recent blockbuster Samajavaragamana, there are solid supporting actors to do the heavy lifting.

Maama Mascheendra may have a familiar bunch of actors with Sudheer Babu, Eesha Rebba, but the former’s triple role, the poor CGI (of the obese character) and the dull trailer have done little to generate adequate buzz. Harshavardhan is a capable writer-director, but his directorial debut, needs to have fantastic reviews/word of mouth if it aims to make a mark at the box office.

Month of Madhu has the finest of trailers among all the releases and a capable bunch of actors, technicians - Naveen Chandra, Swathi Reddy, Srikanth Nagothi, Ravikanth Perepu. The film is catered to a niche audience, but the promos give us every reason to look forward to it and be optimistic of a fulfilling viewing experience. Cinema is a funny business and one can never rule out surprises.

Mad, starring Narrne Nithin, Ram Nithin, Sangeeth Shobhan, is the most vibrant film of the lot, making a timely revisit to the campus comedy genre. The trailer promises crackling fun in theatres and the idea to organise premieres a day or two before its release could just do the trick.

800, the biopic of Muthiah Muralidran, directed by MS Sripathy is equally intriguing and contributes to the viewer’s options. Siddharth’s Chinna, the Telugu version of the acclaimed Chittha, is another worthy attempt that is likely to appeal to audiences.
