It’s not Pelli Choopulu star Vijay Deverakonda, but Pelli SandaD actor Roshann Meka who will be starring alongside Mohanlal in Kannada director Nanda Kishore’s upcoming Malayalam-Telugu bilingual Vrushabha.

There were rumours that the team had approached several big stars in Telugu to play Mohanlal’s son in the big-budget father-son period action-drama, with Vijay Deverakonda being one of the favourites. However, putting all rumours to rest, the makers have now officially confirmed that Roshann, who has only starred in two Telugu films till date, has bagged the pivotal role.

In a press note shared by the team, Roshann expressed his delight for being cast in the role and that too opposite Malayalam superstar Mohanlal. Calling it a “big opportunity” to share screen space with the Bro Daddy and Drishyam star, the actor said that he is currently prepping hard “to live up to Nanda sir’s vision of my character”, which he describes as challenging.

Nanda Kishore, who had previously helmed films such as Tiger and Pogaru in Kannada, said that he immediately knew that Roshann was the best choice to essay the character of Mohanlal’s son in the film. “I have seen his earlier work and I am very impressed with his acting skills,” said the director, who is set to take the movie on floors later this month.

Vrushabha will be Mohanlal’s comeback Telugu movie after Janatha Garage. It also has Ekta Kapoor as one of its co-producers. The film will mark the South debut of Sanjay Kapoor’s daughter Shanaya Kapoor and singer Zahrah S Khan, who is touted to be a playing a warrior in the movie that will hit theatres in 2024.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal is also set to team up with Jeethu Joseph again in August 2024, after he completes a schedule of Vrushabha. The Drishyam duo announced the project on July 13. Jeethu, however, confirmed to OTTplay that the film is not the third instalment of the Drishyam franchise.
