Team RRR reacts to film not being selected for the Oscars, details inside

The RRR team reacted to the film not being chosen as India's 95th Academy Awards official entry. A recent source states that the US distributor of RRR, Variance Films, has asked the Academy to examine the film "in all categories."

The Gujarati film Chhello Show will represent India in the Academy Awards, the Film Federation of India (FFI) said on Tuesday.

Chhello Show beat out competition including SS Rajamouli's RRR, Ranbir Kapoor's Brahmastra: Part One Shiva, Vivek Agnihotri's The Kashmir Files, and R Madhavan's directorial debut Rocketry, according to FFI president TP Aggarwal.

Speaking with Variety, Variance Films president Dylan Marchetti said, “We witnessed the joy that SS Rajamouli's RRR provided to audiences around the world over the past six months. The film earned over $140 million worldwide, making it one of India's all-time highest-grossing movies and the first movie ever to trend internationally on Netflix for more than 14 weeks.”

Dylan added, “RRR ran to packed theatres with cheering crowds months after its first release, including the iconic TCL Chinese IMAX cinema in Hollywood. The most important thing is that viewers from all over the world have told us they think this is one of the best movies of the year from any country. We concur. We humbly request consideration from the Academy for RRR in all categories.”

As per the report, RRR will be submitted for best picture, director (SS Rajamouli), lead actor (for both Jr NTR and Ram Charan), original screenplay (SS Rajamouli and Vijayendra Prasad), supporting actor (Ajay Devgn), supporting actress (Alia Bhatt), original song (Naatu Naatu), original score (MM Keeravaani), cinematography, production design, film editing, costume design, makeup and hairstyling, sound and visual effects.

RRR is yet to be available in the Academy Streaming Room. The Academy Awards are scheduled to take place on March 12, 2023, in Los Angeles.

RRR features Jr NTR and Ram Charan as real-life revolutionaries Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitaraman respectively.

The Kannada, Tamil, and Malayalam dubs of RRR are streaming on ZEE5.

Google, meanwhile, came up with a novel method to honour Rajamouli and his film. 

A motion emoji of a horse and a motorcycle is shown at the top of the screen once a user searches for RRR on the search engine, followed by the results. It pays reference to the famous moment from the film, where Ram Charan is riding a horse and Jr NTR is riding a bike.
