Taylor Swift, Jungkook, Nicki Minaj, Maneskin top the list of MTV EMA 2023 Winners’

The much-anticipated MTV European Music Awards 2023 was cancelled earlier in October, due to the current world events, especially those of a violent nature. But the EMA decided to celebrate musical genius and talent virtually and released the list of winners and their awards. The manner is unusual, unprecedented since its 1994 inception, but EMA did not let its fans sulk on Nov. 5.

Earlier, in October, MTV released a statement, “Given the volatility of world events, we have decided not to move forward with the 2023 MTV EMAs out of an abundance of caution for the thousands of employees, crew members, artists, fans, and partners who travel from all corners of the world to bring the show to life.”

They concluded, “The MTV EMAs are an annual celebration of global music. As we watch the devastating events in Israel and Gaza continue to unfold, this does not feel like a moment of global celebration. With thousands of lives already lost, it is a moment of mourning.”

But on Sunday Nov. 5, MTV dropped the list of winners, confiding, that “as fans worldwide voted for their favorite categories including best artist, best song and more, MTV is recognizing the following artists with 2023 MTV EMAs.”

Taylor Swift won big, bagging three awards for best artist, best live, and best video for Anti-hero. However, the best US act award evaded her and welcomed Nicki Minaj instead, gracing her with best hip-hop award as well.

Jungkook and Maneskin also won two awards each. The former won best K-pop and best song for Seven (ft. Latto), while the latter hit the jackpot in best rock and best Italian act. Among other popular victories, David Guetta won best electronic, Rema topped best Afrobeats, while Tsumyoki blazed to the top of the best India act award.
