Vijay Antony's Tamilarasan was a project which has been lying in the cans for a long time. The movie which was wrapped up in 2020 announced its release date multiple times, but didn't hit screens owing to various reasons. The Babu Yogeswaran directorial finally released in theatres on April 22.
It opened to below average reports upon release and received criticism over its unengaging screenplay. Ramya Nambeesan, Sonu Sood, Suresh Gopi, Radha Ravi and Yogi Babu among others played key roles in the film bankrolled by S Kowsalya Rani.
Ilaiyaraaja has composed music for the action drama which has cinematography handled by RD Rajasekhar and editing helmed by AL Ramesh and Bhuvan Srinivasan. Sakthi Film Factory distributed the movie across Tamil Nadu. The film was Vijay's outing after one-and-a-half year's hiatus.
Its story revolves around an earnest cop who kidnaps a selfish heart surgeon to save his son. How he pulls off what he intends to do amid various challenges forms the rest of the story. This is the second time Vijay has essayed a cop's role after Thimiru Pudichavan.
Tamilarasan is now set for its digital premiere; the film will drop on Zee5 on June 16. The news of the platform acquiring its OTT rights was out earlier. The makers are expected to announce the online release date officially soon.
