With the first half of Tamil cinema's 2024 witnessing a lull state, it seems to be bouncing back with its star-studded second half. With films like Raayan, Indian 2, Kanguva, Thangalaan, Vidaa Muyarchi, The GOAT, and Vettaiyan, gearing up for releases, it is definitely the six months audience are awaiting.

Enjoy 20 OTT platforms streaming South content including SunNXT, aha, ManoramaMAX, ZEE5 and more at just ₹75. 

Apart from this, interesting projects like Thug Life, Bloody Beggar, Ace, Kottukkali and others are also expected to hit theatres soon. But as we know that good things take time, we have come up with this week's releases that you can watch in theatres and on OTT platforms that can keep you entertained. Maharaja

Maharaja is Vijay Sethupathi's 50th film as lead actor. It is directed by Nithilan Saminathan and also stars Natraj, Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, Singampuli, and others. The crime thriller is about a man who lodges a complaint that a trash can from his house has been stolen by thieves.

Aadujeevitham

Release Date: July 19

Aadujeevitham is a Malayalam film which is also available in Tamil. Directed by Blessy, it stars Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead role. The film revolves around a Malayali immigrant who travels to Saudi Arabia for a better income, but forced to be a slave and work as goatherd. 

The Akaali

Release Date: July 19

The Akaali is written and directed by Mohamed Asif Hameed. It stars actors Swayam Siddha, Nasser, Vinoth Kishan, Arjai, Jayakumar, Thalaivasal Vijay, Vinothini, Yamini, Dharani Reddy, and Elavarasan, among others. The Akaali is about a newly-recruited cop who is put in-charge to probe an old case. However, in turn of events, she finds out about occult gangs who have been responsible for a series of satanic killings.

Hit List

Hit List is a action thriller film starring Sarathkumar and Vijay Kanishka in lead roles. The film is about a man who is a follower of non-violence. However after a mysterious man abducts his mother and sister, he is held at gunpoint to take up violence. The film also stars Gautham Menon, Samuthirakani and others.

Haraa

Release Date: July 5

Haraa is a revenge drama starring veteran actor Mohan in the lead role. The film is about a father-daughter bond and the extent to which the father goes to save his daughter. It is directed by Vijay Sri. Apart from Mohan, actors Anumol, Yogi Babu, Rajendran, Charuhasan, Anithra Nair, Suresh Menon, Vanitha Vijay Kumar, Mime Gopi, Aadhava Jaikuma, and Deepa are also part of the film’s cast.

Election

Election is a political drama film directed by Thamizh of Seththumaan fame. The film stars Vijay Kumar, Preethi Asrani, Richa Joshi, George Maryan, and others. It revolves around a man called Nadarasan, who does not seem to be interested in politics, but eventually jumps into it in order to honour his father. As he contests in the local body elections, Nadarasan understands the murky world of politics, the trials and tribulations and the cutthroat atmosphere.

PT Sir

Release Date: June 21

PT Sir is directed by Karthik Venugopal and stars Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi, Kashmira Pardeshi, Anikha Surendran, and others. Aadhi plays the role of a physical education trainer working in a school. The film revolves around how he stands up against the wrong in order to save a few students.

Inga Naan Thaan Kingu

Release Date: June 28

Inga Naan Thaan Kingu is a recently released Tamil film starring Santhanam in the lead role. The commercial entertainer also stars Priyalaya, Thambi Ramaiah, Bala Saravanan, Munishkanth, the late Manobala, Vivek Prasanna, Maran, Cool Suresh and others. The film is directed by Anand Narayan.

Uyir Thamizhukku

Uyir Thamizhukku is a recently released Tamil film starring veteran director Ameer in the lead role. The film is a political drama directed by Adham Bava. Apart from Ameer, Uyir Thamizhukku also stars Chandini, Anandraj, Imman Annachi, Rajasimman, Saravana Sakthi, Mahanadhi Shankar, Subramaniam Siva, Ravi Venkatraman, Raj Kapoor, and others. Uyir Thamizhukku has music scored by Vidyasagar and cinematography by Devaraj. The film's editing was handled by Ashok Charles.

Kurangu Pedal

Kurangu Pedal is directed by Kamalakannan and backed by actor Sivakarthikeyan under his banner, Sivakarthikeyan Productions. Kurangu Pedal has been celebrated in the festival circuit after it became one of the three Tamil films to be screened at the Indian Panorama section of the 53rd International Film Festival of India. It is a period drama and revolves around a bunch of schoolboys who aspire to learn how to ride a bicycle all on their own during their summer vacations.

Star

Star is directed by Elan of Pyaar Prema Kaadhal-fame and is headlined by Kavin. The film is an underdog story of a boy who aspires to make it big in the movie industry as an actor. The film has music scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja and also features actors Lal, Geetha Kailasam, Aaditi Pohankar, Preity Mukhundhan and others. Star is produced by Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra and Rise East Entertainment.

Varshangalkku Shesham

Starring Pranav Mohanlal and Dhyan Sreenivasan in the lead roles, Varshangalkku Shesham is a period drama set against the backdrop of the film industry. The Malayalam film, which is also available in Tamil, is about two friends from Kerala who come to Madras with the hopes of becoming a composer and filmmaker.

Boomer Uncle

Boomer Uncle is a comedy drama starring actor Yogi Babu in the lead role. The film is directed by Swadees MS and written by Thillairaja. Boomer Uncle revolves around Nesam, played by Yogi Babu, who goes to his neglected ancestral property to finalise the divorce agreement with his estranged foreign wife, Amy. However, Amy has other plans as she tries to unearth the secrets behind Nesam’s late father’s scientific experiments. The film stars Oviya, Satish Mohan, Robo Shankar, Madhan Bob, Sona Heiden, KPY Bala, and others.

Rathnam is headlined by Vishal and stars Priya Bhavani Shankar as the female lead. An action drama set in Vellore, the film features Vishal playing a henchman with a heart of gold. Oru Nodi

Oru Nodi is a crime thriller written and directed by B Manivarman. The film stars Taman Kumar, MS Bhaskar, Vela Ramamurthy, Pazha Karuppaiah, Sri Ranjani, and Gajaraj, among others. It revolves around a police officer who is in charge of investigating the kidnap of a woman's husband along with money. Through the probe, he uncovers a web of political corruption and a chain of organised crime with its epicentre in Madurai.

Deiva Machan

Deiva Machan is a fantasy comedy film starring Vemal in the lead role. It is directed by Martyn Nirmal Kumar in his directorial debut. Pandiarajan, Anitha Sampath, Neha Jha, Bala Saravanan, Aadukalam Naren and others are also part of the cast. The film is about an electric appliance shop owner who has dreams of people who would die soon. While this delays his sister in finding the right marriage alliance, they finally find a groom with whom she is happy. However, the groom soon comes in the dreams of the man, only for the latter to realise that his dream might target him.

Kalvan

Kalvan is a rural drama starring GV Prakash Kumar and Ivana in the lead roles, with Bharathiraja and Dheena appearing as supporting characters. The film is directed by PV Shankar and is about two petty thieves who live in the forest regions. One of them wants to become a forest officer and in order to get the money for the job, he orchestrates a plan that involves adopting an old man from a hospice.

Election 

Uriyadi-fame Vijay Kumar has joined hands with director Thamizh who helmed Seththumaan for Election. Govind Vasantha has scored the music for the film.

Romeo

Romeo is a romantic drama starring actors Vijay Antony and Mirnalini Ravi in the lead roles. Directed by Vinayak Vaithianathan, the film features the lead actors as a newly married couple whose marriage took place much against the wishes of the wife even though the husband is very much in love. With the wife aspiring to be an actor, the husband decides to produce her film on the condition that he will play the hero.

The Boys
