​Tamil film Kida gets standing ovation after screening at IFFI Goa

​It's not often that one gets a standing ovation after a film's screening at one of the most prestigious film festivals in India. Director Ra Venkat's Kida managed to achieve the feat. The film, which was recently screened at the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2022, received a standing ovation. The Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur's Office Twitter handle shared the same and wrote, "Kida," a tamil film made by renowned senior telugu producer "Sravanthi" Ravikishore got standing ovation at #IFFI53 (sic)." Interestingly, this is the first Tamil film from the Tollywood producer.

The film stars Poo Ramu, Kaali Venkat to name a few and the story revolves around the relationship between a grandfather, grandson and a goat. The plot of Kida is set in the backdrop of Deepavali day where a grandfather desires to sell his goat to fulfill the wish of his grandson. However, the grandson unconditionally loves the goat. The plot revolves around if the grandfather manages to fulfill the wish of the child without selling his favourite animal.

Meanwhile, two other Tamil films have also made it to the list, which includes Kamalakannan Subramanian's Kurangu Pedal, which revolves around a young boy's quest to learn to ride a bicycle but his father is unable to. Speaking to OTTplay, Kamalakannan had told us, "The film captures a generation's emotional experience of learning to ride a cycle. Those born in the '80s and grew up in the '90s would be able to connect with the scenes instantly. For us, it was like coming of age."

The other Tamil film that will be screened on the occasion is TJ Gnanavel's legal drama, Jai Bhim, starring Suriya, Lijimol Jose and Manikandan in the lead. The film delves into the police brutality and discrimination meted out against members of the marginalised Irula community and revolves around a real-life incident which involved Justice Chandru.
