Actor Tamannaah Bhatia is quite upbeat about her upcoming movie Jailer, in which she has shared screen space with Superstar Rajinikanth. Earlier, the filmmakers kicked off the movie's promotion by releasing the first single Kaavaalaa, which centred on Tamannaah's oomph factor and energetic dance performance. The song instantly became a social media sensation, inspiring countless re-creations.
Recently, Tamannaah also presided over the launch of the song's Hindi version titled Tu Aa Dilbara in Mumbai. While taking a few questions from the media, Tamannaah dismissed the criticism around younger actresses being paired opposite older leading stars.
Tamannaah was asked why unlike in the Hindi film industry, nobody bats an eye when an older male star romances a much younger actress in south Indian movies. Case in point, Tamannaah's pairing with Rajinikanth in Kaavaalaa.
"All these superstars understand that they are actors first. As an actor, your age doesn't matter. It's only in India, we have the idea of age and actors being of a certain age," she said.
She emphasized that internationally, such concerns are far less prevalent and that, ultimately, the focus should be on the characters being portrayed. "I'm playing a character, and Rajini sir is playing a character. He's a demi-god for the entire nation. And still, everyone is playing a character. And we as performers value that over everything. So that's supreme," she stated.
Drawing a parallel with the global entertainment landscape, she added, "You know what, I might be doing a song like this even when I am 60. When Tom Cruise can do action at the age of 60, I want to do a song like this when I'm 60 and rock it even more. And I hope people go berserk way more than they have today."
Jailer is one of the most-awaited movies of 2023. Written and directed by Nelson, the movie is getting ready to arrive in cinemas on August 10.
