For several years video-game adaptations failed to emulate the success of their respective source materials. People on cyberspace and more recently on social media have even gone as far to call it the ‘curse of the video game adaptations’. However, the recent success of films and TV shows, especially Castlevania and The Witcher, appears to signal a change in the tide. In fact, the animated series Arcane, based on League of Legends, is the highest-rated Netflix original show ever created.

HBO is set to release the highly anticipated adaptation of the critically acclaimed The Last of Us franchise, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Elle, later this year. The Last of Us won’t be the only Naughty Dog game arriving this year; the widely popular Uncharted games have received its own feature film adaptation. The film stars Tom Holland as the treasure hunter Nathan Drake, with Mark Wahlberg essaying the role of Victor ‘Sully’ Sullivan. The film releases in India on February 18.
