The March premiere of Taj: Divided by Blood, starring Naseeruddin Shah, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Ashim Gulati, had a mixed reception. The second season of the historical drama was originally supposed to be streamed by the end of the year. But it appears that the Mughal dynasty will return to the big screen sooner than anticipated. The team has moved up Taj: Reign of Revenge debut date to May 12.

The first season of the fictionalised historical drama ZEE5 series ended with Gulati's Salim swearing to exact revenge on his brother Daniyal for killing Anarkali. According to a source, Salim makes a promise to recover Anarkali's remains and build a mausoleum in her memory toward the end of the first season. The next instalment will have a deadlier twist on his thirst for vengeance.

Producer Abhimanyu Singh told Mid Day that Taj took them five years to create when asked what motivated him to advance the release. The outcome, though, has made the entire road worthwhile. They are now releasing the second season earlier than anticipated in response to public demand.

In the first season, Emperor Akbar starts a fight amongst his sons in an effort to pick a suitable successor for his illustrious history. A horrific power struggle including politics, betrayals, and violence then ensues.

The narrative, which takes place in the sixteenth century, centres on Akbar and the battle for power between his three sons, Salim, Murad, and Daniyal. It is a warped story of the battle for control that is rife with risky politics, poetic beauty, savage love, icy deceit, and slaughter. Each figure in the Mughal empire had several levels revealed by the web series. The show dramatises the rise and collapse of the many Mughal dynasties, displaying both the splendour and the savagery of the empire.
