Only days ago, Daali Dhananjaya seemed like a broken man, having failed to secure a digital streaming deal for his third home production Tagaru Palya. Directed by newbie Umesh K Krupa, with Nagabhushana and newcomer Amrutha Prem leading an ensemble cast including Rangayana Raghu, Poorna Mysore, Vasuki Vaibhav, Tara, Chitra Shenoy, Sharath Lohithashwa, the film, according to Dhananjaya, had attracted just over 3 lakh footfalls during its theatrical run, which, for a film led by newbies was quite decent, he said. Dhananjaya had spoken at length about the woes of producers like him who are caught in this OTT quagmire, with streamers only picking titles with a theatrical release and decent business. Even with the backing of a star like him, Tagaru Palya found no takers, he’d said.

That, apparently was all it took to get Amazon Prime Video to come onboard. The streamer has picked up the film and will make it available on December 8. It remains to be seen if the streamer has offered them a hybrid deal, wherein the film will be on the platform only for a limited period, as was the case with Orchestra Mysuru. Tagaru Palya had released in theatres on October 27, only weeks after leading man Nagabhushana was embroiled in a fatal road accident, having run over two pedestrians, one of who succumbed to injuries. The film, meanwhile, is about a local Mandya tradition of an animal sacrifice, wherein the animal is expected to shake its head, supposedly in approval of its imminent slaughter. What happens when a sacrificial goat refuses to ‘consent’ forms the backdrop of the film.

Tagaru Palya, meanwhile, is Dhananjaya’s third home production after Badava Rascal and Head Bush and the first that he did not act in. As an actor, Dhananjaya is awaiting the release of the Telugu film Zebra with Satyadev, and Koti, which is Parameshwar Gundkal’s directorial debut and has been produced by Jio Cinema. The actor is currently working on Uttarakaanda and has Anna From Mexico also in the pipeline.
