When it comes to Indian TV shows, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is an undisputed leader among the mix. The show’s producer Asit Kumar Modi has now opened up about how the TV audiences are evolving in the country today and the influence of OTT.

“It’s a fact that Indian TV has in a way got stuck to a certain zone. Those who are innovating have succeeded but we can say more-or-less everywhere the format is the same. Due to OTT, the world has opened for the audience and they are watching US shows, Korean shows,” he told Hindustan Times.

The producer also opened up about the challenges in front of him and said that there have been a lot of changes in the way the audiences think. Since the show started back in 2008, it has been a big challenge for the makers and they cannot change overnight, he shared.

He also added that he is hopeful that TV will change and that viewing on television is changing as people are shifting to OTT and digital spaces, where they can binge watch at ease.

Talking about the massive success of the fan-favourite show, the producer pointed out that they have 13 million subscribers watching their videos on social media and that it is the most searched show on Alexa.

Dilip Joshi, Raj Anadkat, Amit Bhatt, Sunayana Fozdar, Munmun Dutta, Mandar Chandwadkar and Sonalika Joshi are some of the show’s cast. Shailesh Lodha, who played the lead role of Taarak Mehta on the show, has, however, moved on to his next show.

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is close to hitting 3500 episodes and also holds the Guinness World Record for the longest-running daily sitcom on television by episode count. Written and produced by Modi, the show airs on Sony SAB and its episodes are available to stream on Sony LIV.
