Taapsee Pannu shares she wasn’t the first choice for Haseen Dilruba

The trailer of Taapsee Pannu starrer Haseen Dilruba was unveiled recently. After seeing the clip, fans were sure that no one but Taapsee could fit the role.

However, the actress herself has gone ahead and revealed that she wasn’t the first choice for the film. In fact, Taapsee’s name popped up last from the list.

The actress told Navbharat Times that she instantly jumped upon the opportunity Kanika Dhillon presented her with. She shared, "The day Kanika Dhillon told me about the basic concept of Haseen Dilruba, I liked it a lot. Unfortunately, I was not the first choice for the film. It eventually came to me, after they exhausted all their options."

The film, which is a murder mystery, also features Vikrant Massey and Harshvardhan Rane in the lead roles. The actress had previously hinted that the two have an important role to play in the story. In an interview with ANI, she had shared, “It has such wonderful characters involved which is like candy in an actor's hands.”

Haseen Dilruba is directed by Vinil Mathew. The director had previously helmed the romantic film Hasee Toh Phasee featuring Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra in the lead roles.

Haseen Dilruba is one of the few Hindi films taking the OTT route. It will be released on Netflix on July 2.

The movie will be Taapsee’s first 2021 release. The actress was last seen in Anubhav Sinha’s Thappad, which released in 2020 on Amazon Prime Video and became one of the most-spoken about films of that year.
