Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen has received a new feather in her cap with a distinguished honorary Doctor of Letters (D Litt) degree from Techno India University, West Bengal. While Sushmita herself couldn’t accept the honor due to her health, her father, Subir Sen, accepted it on her behalf.

An official from the university said, “While Sushmita could not attend the event, she sent us a video message. She shared her happiness with us.”

Sharing a photo of the honorary doctorate ceremony and congratulatory event, the actress wrote, “Hon (Dr.) Sushmita Sen. Just had to see how it looked together!!! Missed receiving the D.Litt in person, down with the worst viral…but to have my father @sensubir receive this honour on my behalf yesterday …this is EVERYTHING!!! Thank you Baba!!! You stood tall & proud!!!! #celebrating #honorarydoctorate #graduatinglifewithhonors I love you guys!! #duggadugga.”:

Sushmita Sen is currently engaged in promoting her upcoming web series Taali. In Taali, Sushmita plays the character of Gauri Sawant – a transgender activist from Mumbai.

The web series is set to release on Independence Day, August 15. Inspired by the life of the transformative social worker Gauri Sawant, the series narrates her story. Sushmita Sen did not shy away from portraying the role of Gauri Sawant authentically. She did not use prosthetics, and she worked on her physique to match the male body, even recording male voiceovers during dubbing.

The web series unfolds the journey from Ganesh to Gauri, portraying the story of a struggle to become a mother. Ganesh desires to become a mother, but society does not accept him as one. Despite the challenges and punishments, he remains persistent. Gradually, he transforms internally and externally into Gauri alongside a group of transgender friends. Through dance, song, and worship, Kishore (Gauri) emerges from the crowd. From there, the story delves into another societal battle.
