Actress Swastika Mukherjee and her sister celebrity stylist Aujopa Mukherjea could not cast their vote on June 1 – at the last phase of polling for the General Election in India. They reached their polling booth right on time and yet could not cast their vote as their names were not on the electoral roll. An angry Swastika took to her social media handle to talk about her ordeal.
In a video posted on her social media, Swastika said, “While I lost my Voter ID card, my sister Aujopa has her I-card and she voted last year. This year, our names are not there on the electoral roll. I have never seen anything more disgusting than this,” the actress said.
Interestingly, Swastika and Aujopa lost their parents a while ago. Swastika said that her parents' names are still there on the roll but their names are missing. “Not only our parents but the other elderly people, who are practically immobile, are there on the list. People who live away for years are still there on the list. But our names are not there,” said Swastika, adding that a number of younger generation voters are also not there on the list.
On June 1, the last phase of the poll took place in the nine constituencies in West Bengal. Swastika and Aujopa live in the Golf Green area in Kolkata. Kolkata voted in this phase. A number of actors, and actresses, including Jeet, Dev, Mimi Chakraborty, Nusrat Jahan, and others were seen queuing up to cast their votes.
