The film Veere Di Wedding (VDW) has completed five years since its release on June 1. And on the occasion, one of the leading ladies of the film, Swara Bhaskar, got nostalgic and called it "pathbreaking".

The film also stars Sonam Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Shikha Talsania as leading ladies and is not a regular chick flick.

Swara said, "VDW was a hugely special, landmark film, not just for me personally but for Bollywood too. It was the first time in mainstream Bollywood’s 100-year history that a film was made with four women in the lead and without a hero. Also, the storyline didn’t revolve around two girls falling in love with the same man. The film was an unabashed celebration of friendship, from a female perspective, in an industry where films on friendship are normally centred around male bonding, with men in the lead."

The film received a lot of attention due to its unapologetic projection of women's empowerment, which was reflected in its box office collection. So, Swara believes that Veere Di Wedding opened the door for many female-centric films.

"It etched four imperfect heroines, each with their own chaos and confusion. and created a space where it was okay for women to struggle with adulthood and make mistakes, hitherto a feature reserved for male protagonists."

"VDW was a breath of fresh air, and the best part is that it became a huge success at the box office, carving a path for more such fresh stories to be made," the actress added.

Veere Di Wedding was produced by Sonman's sister, Rhea Kapoor, and directed by Shashanka Ghosh.

Swara has been a part of other pathbreaking films like Tanu Weds Manu, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Nil Battey Sannata, Anaarkali of Aarah, and web series like It's Not That Simple, Rasbhari, and Bhaag Beanie Bhaag.

She will next be seen in the film Mrs. Falani, which is directed by Manish Kishore and Madhukar Verma. It is expected to be released by the end of the year.
