Twenty years have passed since the release of the cult hit Swades, but Ashutosh Gowariker still feels like he established his production firm yesterday with the Shah Rukh Khan-starring film. The fact that the patriotic offering that reflects society has remained in people's thoughts long after it left theatres suggests that the filmmaker's assessment might not be wholly incorrect.
Gowariker understands why Swades, a film about class and caste division, has endured over time. In an interview with Mid Day, he stated that the film brings us back to the current state of affairs. It highlights the areas that require a reset. He experiences joy and sorrow upon learning that Swades continues receiving a positive reception. Despite his sadness, he finds satisfaction in the acknowledgment of his work. He is uncertain if the situation has worsened. The gap between India's urban and rural areas has widened. Gowariker feels like they are making headway when they observe the technical developments in urban areas. Indeed, it is a deception. Naturally, the heartland also offers convenience. However, has their perspective evolved? The filmmaker doesn't believe so. This transformation is far from over. According to him, there is still a lot of ground to cover in that regard.

Gowariker also has a significant workload. He can't wait to move on to new projects now that his production company has reached a major milestone. While the filmmaker is open to exploring other possibilities, pursuing web series seems like the most logical next step in today's world. Additionally, they would like to produce documentaries, audiobooks, and television shows. Their goal is to cover every aspect of the entertainment industry. Because his films are lengthy, they are expanding into the OTT area to develop storylines. This will allow them to tell even longer stories through web series.
The director will not disappoint his fans, who have been impatiently waiting for his lavish films to hit theatres. The screenplay for his film is complete. The filmmaker, who last directed the 2019 historical Panipat, confirms that casting is underway.
Gowariker has worked with Shah Rukh, Aamir Khan, and Hrithik Roshan on memorable films; when asked if he plans to work with them again, he replied that only if he has the right script.
The theme must first occur to him, he continues. If they are any good, he will go ahead and approach them. The filmmaker went on to say that the three of them share the attribute of being open to trying new things within the confines of what is considered mainstream entertainment. For that reason, shows like Dangal, Dear Zindagi, and Super 30 became popular. Their willingness to step outside their comfort zones for a film is contingent upon the fact that it adheres to the formula of a commercially successful film.
