Suriya’s upcoming project Jai Bhim will have him play an advocate involved in a legal battle that dates back to 1993. The director of the film, TJ Gnanavel, has revealed that the film is based on the life of Chandru, an advocate who led a legal battle against the state after realising the atrocities committed against Irular tribe women.
The Soorarai Pottru actor was recently seen in the first look poster of Jai Bhim donning the cape and looking empathically at a group of villagers. Jai Bhim is produced under Suriya’s 2D Entertainment. Actors Manikandan and Lijo Mol Jose play the tribal pair in the movie, with Rajisha Vijayan roped in for a pivotal character. Veteran actor Prakash Raj also stars in the movie as a sincere police officer.
Sean Roldan of VIP2 and Pa Paandi fame composes music for the movie while SR Kathir is the cinematographer for the movie. SR Kathir has worked in movies like Yennai Arindhaal and Asuravadham in the past. TJ Gnanavel’s last film was Koottathil Oruthan, starring Ashok Selvan as a common man Aravind, who is in love with Janani, played by Priya Anand. The movie was appreciated for its humour and Ashok Selvan’s performance.
Apart from Jai Bhim, Suriya is also part of Pandiraj’s Etharkkum Thunidhavan and Vetri Maaran’s Vaadi Vaasal. He’s also awaiting the release of his short from the Netflix anthology Navarasa. Suriya has collaborated with Gautham Vasudev Menon after 13 years (of Vaaranam Aayiram) for the same.
