Soorarai Pottru was based on the life of Air Deccan founder GR Gopinath. The original film also starred Suriya, Aparna Balamurali, and Paresh Rawal, with Mohan Babu, Urvashi, and Karunas in supporting parts.

In the Hindi version which is said to be set in North India, Akshay will be seen romancing Radhika.

The film has recently begun production and will most likely be released theatrically, as opposed to the original, which debuted on OTT. The release date has not yet been set.

Simply Fly: A Deccan Odyssey, a book written by Simplifly Deccan founder G. R. Gopinath served as inspiration for the film.

Critics praised Soorarai Pottru's key technical components, as well as the screenplay, Suriya's performance, and Sudha's direction. It was one of ten Indian films to be in the Best Foreign Film category at the 78th Golden Globe Awards.

The movie was also shown during the 93rd Academy Awards, despite the fact that it had no nominations. The film was also chosen for the Panorama Section of the Shanghai International Film Festival.
