Malayalam filmmaker Siddique passed away following a heart attack yesterday, and his colleagues have been paying condolences to him. Many leading actors, directors and producers from the industry took to their social media pages to remember the successful filmmaker who helmed many super hit projects.
Suriya has now taken to Twitter to share some memories associated with Siddique, who he refers to as someone who never loses his cool on the set. They worked together for Friends in 2001, which was the remake of the director's own film he made in Malayalam two years ago.
The Kanguva star heaped praise on him and thanked him for instilling confidence in him. He said that Friends was one of the first films which had a jovial set that made him want to go shooting every day like never before. The filmmaker, despite being a senior, treated everyone equally and behaved in a friendly manner, he reminisced.
"He would convey his observations on my performance with a lot of unconditional love, both during the shoot and at edit. He taught me to enjoy the process of filmmaking and to not take myself seriously (sic)," Suriya posted.
Both the Malayalam and Tamil versions of Friends turned out to be super hits at the box office. The Kollywood version had slight changes, especially in the climax. The movie helped Vijay and Suriya to go to the next level in their respective careers.
Vijay worked with Siddique again in Kaavalan after a decade, which was also a remake of the director's Bodyguard. However, Suriya could never join hands with him again. Bhaskar Oru Rascal was his last outing in Tamil, again a remake of his own Bhaskar The Rascal.
