Suriya and Chiyaan Vikram, the National Award-winning actors are reportedly set to reunite after the acclaimed film Pithamagan, for senior director S Shankar’s dream project Velpari.

S Shankar, the senior filmmaker is all set to bounce back with some promising projects in his kitty. Recently, the Indian 2 director confirmed that he is working on the movie adaptation of Su Venkatesan’s famous Tamil novel Veera Yuga Nayagan Velpari. Even though the filmmaker has not finalised the star cast yet, rumours about the same have been doing rounds on social media lately. Reportedly, popular Tamil actors Suriya and Chiyaan Vikram might come together for Shankar’s Velpari movie adaptation.
If the recent updates are to be believed, Suriya is all set to team up with S Shankar for the first time in his career, for the movie adaptation of Veera Yuga Nayagan Velpari novel. However, another update suggests that not just Suriya, but Chiyaan Vikram is also set to be a part of the prestigious project. In that case, the Velpari film will mark Vikram’s reunion with director Shankar after a gap of 9 years. The duo’s previous outing, I, was released in 2015.

For the uninitiated, the Kanguva star and Thangalaan actor previously worked together in Pithamagan, the highly acclaimed Bala directorial, which hit the theatres in 2003. Chiyaan Vikram played the role of Chithan, an autistic man in the film and won the National Film Award for Best Actor. Suriya, on the other hand, appeared as Sakthivel, the man who tries to save Chithan from a cruel fate. If things fall in place, Velpari will mark the reunion of the actor duo, after a long gap of 21 years.
For the uninitiated, Veera Yuga Nayagan Velpari is touted to be historical period film, that revolves around the life of a tribal leader who fought against Cheras, Cholas, and Pandyas. Suriya is expected to play the titular character Velpari in the film, which is expected to feature Chiyaan Vikram in a pivotal role. Director S Shankar is planning to make his dream project as a three-part franchise. A major announcement on the same is expected to be out after the release of the director’s next outing Game Changer, the Ram Charan starrer slated to hit the theatres in December 2024.
