Popular actor Suriya and acclaimed director Karthik Subbaraj’s recent announcement about their upcoming film, Suriya 44, definitely caught us all by surprise. However, the makers of the film have now revealed the real reason as to why they kept the project a secret for a long time. According to producer Karthikeyan, the makers had been in talks with Suriya for over two and half years, as both the actor and director Karthik Subbaraj were occupied with their previous commitments. Hence, it took a very long time for the final script to get ready. He also pointed out that it is very difficult to keep suspense these days, and so they wanted to make sure the exciting collaboration was only revealed when announced officially.
“These days the impact of announcements has gone down because it gets leaked very easily. That’s the reason we didn't want to say anything even a day before the announcement that something was coming up; we just wanted to go ahead and directly put the news and watch the audience's response,” the producer remarked.
Though elated by this surprise announcement, fans have been wondering if the script for Suriya 44 was originally written for Thalapathy Vijay. The rumours began circulating due to the actor’s potential collaboration with Karthik Subbaraj for his last film, Thalapathy 69. However, producer Karthikeyan has put all the rumours to rest and clarified that the story was written with Suriya in mind. “This film was made for Suriya. Karthik had initially narrated a one-liner to Suriya, before shooting for Jigarthanda DoubleX. Suriya approved the idea and asked him to come back with the full script. Now that both of their dates have aligned, the production for the film will begin soon”, he said.
Suriya 44 will be co-produced by Suriya's home banner 2D Entertainment and Karthik Subbaraj's Stone Bench Films. The makers had also released the first poster while announcing the film. The poster features an arrow going through the bark of a tree, with flames seen in the background along with a silhouette of a car. Below the poster, there is a tagline that reads, ‘#Love Laughter War’, hinting that the film might be an action-packed romantic comedy. The makers are yet to announce the rest of the information on the cast and crew of the upcoming project.
Apart from this new project, the actor is currently awaiting the release of Kanguva with director Siva. A teaser was unveiled recently. Although the release date of the film is yet to be announced, the film’s post-theatrical rights have been secured by Prime Video. Kanguva also features Bobby Deol and Disha Patani.
