We had earlier reported that actor Suriya will be joining hands with filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj for Suriya 44. For the occasion of Christmas on Wednesday, the team revealed the big update! The makers revealed the title of the film as Retro, and released an intriguing teaser to share the same.
Suriya 44 is now Retro, title teaser out
The much-awaited update from the makers of Suriya 44 is out! The makers announced the title of Suriya 44 as Retro on December 25, 2024.
The teaser begins with Suriya and Pooja Hegde sitting by the temple pond, as Pooja ties a thread on his hand. In return, Suriya promises to leave his anger behind as we see some violent action intercuts. He also says he will stop working with his father who is revealed to be Joju George, a deadly gangster. As Suriya promises to reform and be a better man, Pooja Hegde answers with a smile. Suriya promises to be a happy man, and find a purpose in his life and love. In return, Pooja answers his proposal for marriage with a kiss on his forehead, as they embrace. The title teaser then reveals to be Retro, as we see Suriya smoking with a glass of drink.
Suriya 44 release date
The upcoming film will mark the first time Karthik Subbaraj will be working with Suriya. Apart from Suriya, the film also features Pooja Hegde, Jayaram, Joju George, Karunakaran, Nassar, Prakash Raj, and others. Actor Shriya Saran will be making a special cameo appearance for a dance number.
Backed by Stone Bench Films and 2D Entertainment, the project is touted to be a romantic action film. Santhosh Narayanan, a regular collaborator of Karthik Subbaraj, is scoring the music for Retro. With cinematography by hreyaas Krishna, the editing is handled by Mohammed Shafique Ali. Jacki, Mayapandi are the art directors.

Retro is all set to release in summer of 2025. An exact date is yet to be announced.
