After successful movies like Paapan and Varane Avashyamund, actor-cum-politician Suresh Gopi is all set to make a comeback to Malayalam films. The actor's upcoming release, Garudan, directed by Arun Varma, is currently being promoted. During the promotions, Suresh revealed that it is difficult for Malayalam movies to have a pan-Indian reach due to limited budgets and markets.
"Earlier, Tamil and Kannada industries made pan-Indian movies like Vikram in 1984, while contemporary films of Mammootty and Mohanlal lacked the same quality due to lower budgets. But now, producers and actors are looking to expand the market of Malayalam films. Soon, we can expect a Malayalam film that surpasses films like KGF in terms of appeal and scale," Suresh said in the press meeting.
The Paapan actor also revealed that he has turned down roles from other industries due to language barriers. Despite being fluent in Hindi and English, he struggles with Kannada and Telugu. Therefore, he prefers to act in his mother tongue, even though the pay may not be as high as in other language films. Suresh also expressed his desire to take on more roles, as he regrets wasting time earlier by abstaining from films and wants to make up for it.
All about Garudan
Garudan is a courtroom drama scripted by Anjaam Pathiraa director Midhun Manuel Thomas. Suresh plays a police officer who is on the verge of retirement. The actor has revealed that the film deals with important subjects in our judicial system. Biju Menon will be sharing the screen with Suresh in Garudan after a long hiatus. The duo has earlier delivered hits like Pathram, FIR, and Christian Brothers.
During an exclusive conversation with OTTplay, Arun Varma, the director of the movie, revealed that Garudan is a blend of different genres. The film is said to have elements of investigation and courtroom drama, making it unique. Arun also refrained from labelling it as a 'mass' or 'class' film.
Although there has been no official announcement about its release yet, reports suggest that the movie will hit theatres on November 3.
