In the course of his three films, director-scriptwriter Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval has proved that his experimental movies can also work well commercially. His latest directorial, Nna Thaan Case Kodu that reportedly Rs 50 crore in box office revenue, is a testament to that. The filmmaker is now reportedly gearing up for a movie that has Suraj Venjaramoodu, Babu Antony and Arjun Ashokan as part of the cast.
Ratheesh will only be scripting the film, which will be helmed by his associate director Sudhish Gopinath. The movie, which is expected to go on floors, will once again deal with an issue that plagues the common man but will be told through humour.
Suraj had earlier teamed up with Ratheesh in the latter’s debut director Android Kunjappan Ver. 5.25, in which he played a 70-year-old and was lauded for his performance in the movie. The characters of the movie are kept under wraps for now. The team had recently put out a casting call for the untitled film.
Babu Antony, meanwhile, is gearing up for the release of Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan. He has also completed shooting for Omar Lulu’s action entertainer Power Star. Arjun Ashokan, who had extended cameos in Kaduva and Malayankunju, has a host of projects lined up for release including Thuramukham, Thattassery Koottam, Trishanku, Nancy Rani and Romancham. The actor is currently shooting for Ajajagantharam director Tinu Pappachan’s action thriller, scripted by Joy Mathew. The film also has Antony Varghese and Kunchacko Boban in lead roles.
Ratheesh, meanwhile, is next rumoured to direct Mohanlal in a movie, which will be produced by Santosh T Kuruvilla. The filmmaker has also announced a spin-off of Android Kunjappan Ver. 5.25 titled Alien Aliyan that will have Tovino Thomas in a pivotal role. He had also revealed plans of helming a period film. The success of Nna Thaan Case Kodu will also reflect in the budget of whichever project he chooses to do next.
