A little over two years ago, when Guardians of the Galaxy maker James Gunn became the co-head of DC Studios, it was announced that the first feature that he and partner Peter Safran would greenlight would be a Superman reboot. Directed by Gunn, based on his script, the film, which introduces David Corenswet, as Clark Kent/Superman, will be in theatres on July 11, 2025.
It’s a story about humanity; about what it means to be a hero in a world that doesn’t always make it easy to be one, Gunn had said in a video message ahead of the release of the teaser trailer that came out earlier today. If the response to the trailer is anything to go by, audiences are absolutely digging the filmmaker’s version of Superman.
The star of the teaser was, without an iota of doubt, Krypto, the Superdog. “That’s a super strong boy”, “My boy Krypto looks absolutely adorable; he’s even got a cape” to “This dog’s about to steal my heart the moment he arrives on screen”, were just a few of the many comments about the introduction of Superman’s pet.
The trailer, added netizens, has a distinct Gunn feel to it, and captures the real essence of Superman perfectly and evoke many emotions, as if the comics have come to life. Gunn, they said, understood the task at hand, and is set to deliver a film that will save the DC Universe.
The teaser introduces audiences to Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi’s Mr Terrific, Anthony Carrigan’s Metamorpho, Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl and, of course, Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane, among many others. Considering that Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise is also character packed, this had netizens wondering if having so many characters in one film is his comfort zone.
